Who Is Taylor Fritz?
Taylor Fritz is an American professional tennis player who competes on the ATP Tour. He is particularly recognised for his strong serve, powerful groundstrokes, and ability to compete against some of the best players in men’s tennis.
Born into a tennis-oriented family, Fritz became interested in the sport at a very young age. His mother, Kathy May, was a successful professional tennis player, while his father, Guy Fritz, worked as a tennis coach. Growing up around the game gave him an early understanding of competitive tennis.
Fritz made a quick impression after turning professional in 2015. He reached an ATP Tour final as an 18-year-old in 2016 and continued improving his results over the following years.
His career reached another level in 2022 when he won the Indian Wells title, defeating Rafael Nadal in the final.
However, one of his most important career milestones came at the 2024 US Open. Fritz reached his first Grand Slam singles final, becoming the first American man to reach a Grand Slam singles final since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009.
Although he lost the final to Jannik Sinner, the achievement strengthened his position among the world’s top players.
Age and Early Life
Taylor Fritz was born on October 28, 1997, in Rancho Santa Fe, California, United States. As of October 12, 2026, he is 28 years old and will turn 29 on October 28, 2026.
Tennis was part of his life from the beginning. According to his ATP Tour biography, Fritz started playing tennis at just two years old because both of his parents played the sport. This early exposure helped him develop his skills long before he entered professional competition.
His mother, Kathy May, reached the top 10 of the women’s world rankings during her professional career. His father, Guy Fritz, became a tennis coach and helped introduce his son to the competitive side of the sport.
Growing up in this environment meant that Fritz had access to tennis knowledge and experience at home. Still, becoming a professional player required years of practice, discipline, travel, and competition against other talented juniors.
Rather than following a traditional path into professional tennis after completing all his schooling, Fritz began making significant progress on the junior circuit while still young. His performances eventually opened the door to international junior competition and the professional tour.
